Bio-identical Hormones, Saliva Testing and You

Preface: I have been researching the bio-identical hormone issue for several decades. It is a controversial subject, with the people who make money selling or prescribing conventional hormones claiming synthetic hormones are safe and purporting that there is no solid evidence to support the efficacy of bio-identical hormones. Meanwhile, the health providers who use bio-identical hormones in their practices, move forward, ignoring the controversy and loving the results they get with the bio-identical hormones they prescribe.
The Argument in favor of bio-identical hormones as opposed to synthetic hormones is incredibly simple and logical. It is a controversial subject in the healthcare field, and it doesn’t need to be. The logic and science supporting bio-identical hormones make them a clear winner.
Let’s Look at the Facts:
Synthetic hormones are unnatural. They are man-made chemicals (or, in one case, horse estrogen), and they are different in chemical composition from the hormones made by the human body.
Bio-identical hormones are natural, and, as the name implies, they are identical to the hormones made by the body.
An article published in 2009 in the medical journal, Postgraduate Medicine, makes the following statement: “Conclusion: Physiological data and clinical outcomes demonstrate that bio-identical hormones are associated with lower risks, including the risk of breast cancer and cardiovascular disease, and are more efficacious than their synthetic and animal-derived counterparts. Until evidence is found to the contrary, bio-identical hormones remain the preferred method of HRT. . .”
Synthetic hormones have been proven to increase the risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, heart disease, kidney stones, gallstones, blood clots, and strokes, among other undesirables.
