Hemorrhoids, sometimes called piles, while not a life-threatening health condition, can significantly decrease the quality of life of the sufferer. In this article, I will discuss methods of prevention, and proven, scientific, natural treatments that can help sufferers of this unpleasant problem.
It is important to understand that a hemorrhoid is a swollen blood vein, similar to a varicose vein in the leg—albeit in a much more sensitive place. There are internal and external hemorrhoids. The external ones are, of course, more easily diagnosed.
There are countless websites that discuss all the same commonly accepted causes of hemorrhoids; prolonged sitting, straining, etc. (yawn). It is my opinion, that the best way to prevent hemorrhoids is to maintain strong, healthy blood vessels, good circulation, and a healthy, properly functioning digestive tract.
Fresh Information Coming Up
Rather than bore you with the same information you can find all over the internet, I am going to explain the real reasons why hemorrhoids occur, and what to do about the problem. I will also give you an amazing quick-relief tip that I bet you have never heard of.
Correct the Causes
In the realm of natural healing, we always deal with the root causes of health problems, and, while hemorrhoids are not life-threatening, the issues that are at the very root of hemorrhoids, can be.
First, it must be understood that in order for a vein to bulge out—as in hemorrhoids and varicose veins—there must be a weakening of the vein wall, often accompanied by increased internal pressure. Herein lie the true causes of hemorrhoids. But what causes those causes?
Inflammation is a big factor in hemorrhoids and in almost every other modern health problem. Inflammation can cause weakening of the endothelium (the internal lining of the vein). This can be dangerous (see my article on inflammation).
I won’t go into the causes of inflammation in great depth, but, here, again, we have the usual suspects: Alcohol, tobacco, vaping, coffee, soda pop, sugar, gluten, seed oils, junk food, nutritional deficiencies, low fiber diet, etc. I will, however, discuss ways of correcting inflammation.
In addition to eliminating the causes of inflammation mentioned above, there are some specific nutritional deficiencies that can result in inflammation of the endothelium. Notable among these deficiencies are the B vitamins, folate (B9), B6, and B12 (be sure your B12 is in the methylcobalamin form, not cyanocobalamin) and vitamin C. (see my article on camu camu).
The B vitamins mentioned above are essential in breaking down homocysteine* which causes inflammation and other problems. If you plan to take the B vitamins, I recommend a good, natural, B complex as opposed to taking individual vitamins.
The cells that line the endothelium of blood vessels form a tight barrier. This barrier is weakened by inflammation. When there is sufficient vitamin C in the body, it tightens this barrier and maintains its integrity, protecting it from inflammation.
Avoid constipation
I frequently make the statement that constipation is much more than a minor annoyance. It is a dangerous health problem that needs to be avoided. I will make specific recommendations below, regarding constipation.
Diarrhea can also cause hemorrhoids. If you have chronic diarrhea, it needs to be corrected.
Hemorrhoids are not exactly the same thing as varicose veins, but they are both veins and they both have an endothelium. In clinical practice, I found that most of the same things that help sufferers of varicose veins also benefit those who suffer from hemorrhoids.
Breaking news: You learned it here first!
Before I list the natural medicines that are beneficial in dealing with hemorrhoids, here’s a little-known secret for first aid—and it’s pretty amazing.
